Allergy / Special Diet Information

   

If your child has an allergy of any kind that requires a special diet, then we're here to help!   A doctor's prescription is required and must be on file in the Child Nutrition Services Office for all special diets and allergies in order to facilitate menu substitutions.  Download and print the form .  Take the form to your physician so they can fill it out concerning your child's allergies. Did you know that school meals are better for you than most meals brought from home? Research indicates that reimbursable school meals provide three times as many dairy products, twice as much fruit, and seven times more vegetable amounts than lunches brought from home. The research also concluded that “reimbursable school lunches were lower in fat, provided more nutrients overall and offered more variety than lunches brought from home.  Let’s compare a school lunch to a popular commercial brand “lunchable."

Important Facts about School Meals

•  School meals meet State and Federal Guidelines
.

•  School meals have no more than 30% of calories from fat and less than 10% from saturated fat per week.

•  School meals meet 1/3 of the Recommended Dietary Allowances for protein, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, iron, calcium and calories per week.

•  Schools meals offer plenty of variety including pasta, entrée salads, Southern favorites, ethnic dishes, assortment of fruits and vegetables, milk, and many other kid-approved menu items. You can leave the menu planning to us.
